12 Steps of Sinners Admitting It

  1. We admitted we were powerless over our habitual sins — that our lives had become unmanageable.

  2. Came to believe that Our Lord could forgive our sins and make us whole.

  3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to Our Lord.

  4. Conducted a thorough and honest self-examination, reflecting on our sins, as defined by the teachings of the Catholic Church.

  5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another person, the full extent of our sins.

  6. Became entirely ready to have God cleanse us of all these faults through His mercy.

  7. Through the sacrament of reconciliation, humbly asked God to forgive our sins and help us overcome our weaknesses.

  8. Made a list of everyone we had harmed through our sins and sought to make amends to them.

  9. Made direct amends to those we had sinned against wherever possible, except when doing so would cause more harm or lead to further sin.

  10. Continued to examine our conscience regularly, and when we sinned, promptly admitted it and received forgiveness through the sacrament of reconciliation.

  11. Sought to deepen our relationship with God through prayer, meditation, and the sacraments, asking for the strength to follow His will.

  12. Having experienced a spiritual renewal through these steps, we aimed to share this journey with other sinners and to live out these principles in all areas of our lives.
